Thirty-two percent of hospitals say they currently use capabilities required to demonstrate "meaningful use" of electronic health records to qualify for incentive payments under the federal stimulus package, according to a Computer Sciences Corp. survey.
Forty-nine percent of large hospitals report that they use capabilities required to demonstrate meaningful use of EHRs, compared with 30% of medium-size hospitals and 16% of small hospitals.
According to CSC, smaller hospitals are further behind in their progress toward meeting meaningful use criteria and have fewer resources available to comply with the requirements.
Results are based on a survey of 58 hospitals that was conducted between October and December 2009.
